Another data point on sizing: I wear 11.5 in most shoes. I bought the 11 and the 12 to see which worked best for me (with the inserts). The 11 fit snugly with just a pair of regular athletic socks – a little room at the heel but pretty tight around the toes. The 12 was somewhat loose with just these socks but not uncomfortably so.
With a thicker sock (Dickies brand heavyweight crew) AND the thinner athletic sock (Puma), the 12 fits perfectly. The 11 is too snug. However, with just the thick socks, the 11 is perfectly snug (which you want in boots since they lack the ankle support that laced shoes provide) and the 12 still has a little too much room. Since the boots are so warm already, I don’t want to wear more than the heavyweight crew socks for fear my feet will sweat too much. So, the smaller or larger size could be right for you if you are a half-size – just depends on what type of socks you are going to wear. I went with the 11s.
